The following announcement was made by Derek Stockham Sensei at JKS Wales’ squad training yesterday:
After careful consideration, I have made the decision to step down from my role as Branch Leader of JKS Wales, effective 31st January 2026.
I have had the honour of leading JKS Wales since it was established in 2014, and serving the organisation in this capacity has been both a privilege and a responsibility I have valued immensely. I am sincerely grateful for the trust, support, and cooperation shown to me by members, instructors, and colleagues throughout this time. Together, we have worked to develop and strengthen JKS Wales, and I am proud of what has been achieved.
This decision was not taken lightly. I have discussed my intention with Yamaguchi sensei, Director of the JKS International Department, and I am grateful to have received his full support in this matter. I remain fully committed to the values and aims of JKS and will continue to support the organisation in an appropriate capacity.
Everyone at JKS Wales would like to take this opportunity to thank Derek sensei for all his hard work and dedication to the role. He has created a strong foundation on which the future of JKS Wales will continue to grow'.

Derek Sensei,
Thank you for everything you have done to support us over the years. The journey we’ve shared has been a truly positive one, and your guidance, commitment, and encouragement have been invaluable throughout.
We are genuinely sad to see you stepping down, but we know this is not goodbye. Your continued support for both JKS and JKS Wales means a great deal, and we are grateful to still have you as part of the wider journey ahead.
