"Endeavor to Excel"

JKS Wales Performance Pathway
At JKS Wales, we are committed to helping every athlete reach their full potential. Our Performance Pathway has been designed to give karateka clear opportunities to develop, progress, and achieve their goals within a supportive and challenging environment.
The pathway provides a clear structure so athletes understand where they are in their journey and what is required to progress to the next level. It recognises effort, attitude, commitment, and performance — not just results.

JKS Wales Pathway Athletes
Pathway Athletes are those who have put themselves forward to be considered for the JKS Wales performance programme. This stage is about growth, learning, and demonstrating the standards expected within JKS Wales. Athletes are supported as they work towards squad selection and are encouraged to show strong commitment, work ethic, and a positive attitude.

JKS Wales Development Squad
The Development Squad is made up of athletes who have shown the potential and standards required to move further along the performance pathway. At this level, athletes receive additional support and guidance to help develop their technical skills, competition performance, and overall understanding of high-level karate.

JKS Wales National Squad
The National Squad represents the highest level of performance within JKS Wales. These athletes are selected to represent Wales at national and international events. Athletes at this level are expected to lead by example, maintain high performance standards, and show professionalism both on and off the tatami.

Competition Team Selection
Selection to a JKS Wales squad does not automatically guarantee selection for competition teams. Teams for competitions are selected from the appropriate squads based on factors such as performance, readiness, attitude, and suitability for the specific event. This ensures JKS Wales can select the strongest possible teams while maintaining fairness and high standards.

Through this pathway, JKS Wales aims to create an environment where athletes feel supported, challenged, and motivated to improve. The goal is to help every athlete develop not only as competitors, but also as disciplined and respectful martial artists.
