The JKS Wales Kyu Grade Championships 2026 was a fantastic celebration of developing talent, competitive spirit, and karate excellence. With approximately 150 entries across 37 categories, the event showcased the depth and strength of kyu grade karateka from across Wales and beyond.

Competitors took part in a wide range of events including Tigers Kick Master, Tigers Punching and Blocking, Kata, Pairs Kata, Kumite, and Team Kumite. The standard throughout the day was outstanding, with impressive displays of technical precision, strong fighting spirit, and excellent sportsmanship.

The Tigers divisions once again proved to be a highlight, with our youngest competitors demonstrating focus, determination, and growing confidence on the tatami.

In Kata and Pairs Kata, athletes displayed strong stances, sharp technique, and committed performances, while the Kumite and Team Kumite divisions delivered exciting and highly competitive matches.

A special congratulations goes to Owen Chan of Bunbu Dojo, who was awarded Overall Best Competitor after an exceptional performance across his events.

Congratulations also to Rory Daniels Karate (RDK), who finished as the most successful club on the day — a testament to the hard work of their athletes and coaching team.

Events like this are only possible thanks to the dedication and support of many individuals. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all table officials for their efficiency and professionalism, our referees and judges for maintaining high standards and fairness throughout, our medics for ensuring competitor safety, and to the coaches who continue to guide and support their students.

Most importantly, thank you to all the competitors who stepped onto the tatami with courage, commitment and respect. Your attitude and spirit truly represent the values of karate.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next event!
